Description
Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone Secretion (SIADH) is a syndrome of inappropriate secretion or failure to suppress anti-diuretic hormone which leads to impaired water excretion which leads to the development of hyponatremia. There are instances of appropriate secretion of ADH in response to fluids shifts resulting from a variety of conditions.

In this training, Matthew Somerset, nurse practitioner at the inpatient and outpatient leukemia ward at Princess Margaret Hospital will:
• Discuss the definition and features of SIADH;
• Understand why this syndrome is important in in our population of patients with hematological
malignancies;
• Understand the pathophysiology, including cellular level changes that happen in SIADH;
• Understand the broad treatments for SIADH;
• Define the role of the RN in recognizing and treating SIADH.
