Unit 5 - Complementary and Integrative Health.

This training is presented in collaboration with the Canadian Association of Nurse in Oncology (CANO) and is part of CANO’s manual Adult cancer survivorship: A self-Learning resource for nurses - 2020.

This presentation will focus on Complementary and integrative health (CIC) and oncology nursing practice. The experts, Lynda G. Balneaves, RN, PhD and Kim Chapman, RN, MScN, CON(C) will explore the historical perspective of CIH, CIH and cancer, the types of CIH seen in cancer care practice today and offer some resources to support nurses in practice. CIH is an exciting and evolving field in cancer care. Oncology nurses have an important role in educating and supporting people considering or using CIH during the cancer journey.
• The standard about comprehensive health assessment includes assessing the patient’s use of, and response, to complementary and alternative health care practices throughout the cancer trajectory.
