Description
Unit 3 - Managing Late, long-term/Persistent Physical Effects of Cancer Treatment.

Adult cancer survivorship - Unit 3 - Managing Late, long-term/Persistent Physical Effects of Cancer Treatment

This training is presented in collaboration with the Canadian Association of Nurse in Oncology (CANO) and his part of CANO’s manual Adult cancer survivorship: A self-Learning resource for nurses – 2020.

Many cancer survivors are at risk for developing some type of late and/or long-term effect from the cancer itself or from its treatment. Late effects, also referred to as delayed effects, can appear months to years after treatment is completed. Although cancer treatments are improving, due to the complexity of the procedures, late and long-term effects are more common. In this presentation, Samantha Mayo, RN PhD, will discuss the importance of nursing care, that aims to reduce the risk of late or long-term effects appearing after cancer or its treatments, as well as to detect these effects quickly in order to treat them.

Learning objectives:
Regularly assesses and monitors for potential acute and chronic physical changes to the individual's response to illness using focused assessment tools
Facilitates the individual/family’s understanding of the episodic and chronic nature of cancer
Facilitates the development of self-care to manage and anticipate the signs and symptoms of disease, side effects of treatments, and symptom identification
